Q.R.S.
(Quick Response Service)
In 1982, a group of men & women became certified as EMT's (Emergency Medical Technicians). EMT's have an extensive knowledge of basic life support training. Those EMT's then certified our old 1974 Ford Squad as Basic Life Support (BLS) unit with the PA State Department of Health. We were the 1st organization in Lancaster County to establish this Q.R.S. service.
Since we do not provide an ambulance service to our area, our Squad is dispatched with the Ambulance and Medic Unit. We often arrive before the ambulance and medics, thus starting basic life support treatments immediately until they arrive.
In 1988, we purchased a Chevy Suburban to replace our aging 1974 Swab Rescue. The unit was designated as Squad-Q.R.S. 5-1.
In 1997, we purchased an AED (automated external defibrillator) for the QRS. A second AED was placed on Engine 5-1-1.
We have approximately 12 active EMT's.

New QRS 5-1 Nears Completion
9/14/2009 - Today the new QRS unit was driven back from Odyssey Automotive Specialties in New Jersey to Hondru Chevrolet in Manheim for a final GM warranty inspection and PA State Inspection. Within the next couple of days, the unit will arrive back in its new home at Station 5-1. QRS members then will begin the task of moving medical supplies and equipment over from the old QRS unit. After the relocation of equipment, QRS members will then work on driver training and put the new unit in to service.
