John G. Lawrence
3/11/2009 -
On Tuesday evening, the Bart Township Fire Company members
arrived as a group for to view our fallen special division member John G.
Lawrence. Members expressed condolences to his wife Darlene and Johns
mother and there respective family members. Bart Township Fire Company
members established an honor guard at the entrance into the funeral viewing
room. During Wednesdays memorial service, members established an honor
guard beside John's casket. Special thanks to the following for help in

Announcing the LODD of Special Division Member
John G. Lawrence
3/7/2009 - It is with deep regret that the
Bart Township Fire Company announces the line of duty death of Special Division
Ladies Auxiliary member John G. Lawrence. John, age 52 of Bart, PA formerly of
Norwich, N.Y., passed away at the Lancaster General Hospital on Saturday, March
7, 2009. He was the husband of Darlene T. Swisher-Lawrence, also a lifelong
member and vice president of the special division ladies auxiliary, with whom he
celebrated 6 years of marriage on May 25th of last year. John died in the
line of duty while assisting with a traffic control detail in front of the fire
station during our 45th annual mud sale. John was a Scale Master for
Lancaster County Solid Waste Management. He was a member of the Rising Sun
American Legion, Quarryville Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, Ancient Order of
Croaking Frogs of Quarryville and member of the Bart Township Fire Company. John
enjoyed playing golf, fishing, traveling and playing cards.
Surviving besides his wife and
mother are three children: Shane husband of Shawna Cargill Lawrence, Kathleen
Lawrence fiancé of Bobby Mikalunas, Donald husband of Melissa Gross Lawrence,
all of Norwich, step daughters: Terry L. wife of Victor Aulestia of Lancaster,
Dawn M. wife of Gary Fromm of Strasburg, Tracy A. Joe of Quarryville; two
grandsons: Shane Michael, Jr. & Torin Matthew Lawrence, 5 step granddaughters, 1
step great grandson; sister: Debbie wife of George Flanagan of Norwich.
Funeral services will take place at the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth
Street, Christiana, PA on Wednesday, March 11th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Michael
Remel officiating. There will be a viewing on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
and again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. The family request
NO fire apparatus be present but welcomes any neighboring fire company
personnel to attend. John, thanks for your service to your community,
you will truly be missed.
