It is with deep regret the Bart Township Fire Company announces the passing of Life member Hazel G. "Nan" Woerth 108 years of age.
Tue, Oct 31st, 2017 1:00:00 am - It is with deep regret the Bart Township Fire Company announces the passing of Life Member Hazel G. "Nan" Woerth. 

Born on June 26, 1909, Hazel was a founding member of the Ladies auxiliary. She served as Auxiliary Chaplain for many years. Hazel enjoyed baking in her kitchen on the farm.  Hazel could always be found cooking at the monthly fire company breakfasts and helping cut corn off the cob for our homemade chicken corn soup for our annual Mud Sales. Hazel's husband the late George K. Woerth was a September 24, 1946 Bart Township Fire Company charter member. Hazel lived on a century old farm on White Oak Rd until 2000. Hazel had 2 sons H. Curtis "Buzz" & Kern, who both joined the fire company as well as their children, grand children & great grandchildren.

Obituary:

Hazel G. Woerth, age 108, formerly of Paradise, passed away at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retire-ment Community on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. She was the wife of the late George K. Woerth, who passed away on August 20, 1977. She was born in Bart Township on June 26, 1909, daughter of the late Harry & Minnie Hahn Rice. She was a member of the Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church of Quarryville. She graduated from the former Bart Township High School class in 1925, then attending Harrisburg College to study bookkeeping. She worked for Walter & Hassel and Nickel Mine Grocery Store as a bookkeeper. Hazel enjoyed baking, reading the newspaper and Hershey chocolate bars with almonds. She was a life member of the Special Division of the Bart Township Fire Company and the Green Tree Thimble Club.

Surviving are 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons: H. Curtis "Buzz" Woerth and Kern A. Woerth husband of Doris Whitelock Woerth of Christiana, 3 siblings: Evelyn Redman, Ward Rice, and Graydon Murr.

Funeral service will take place from the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA 17509, on Saturday, November 4 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Douglas Hileman officiating. There will be no viewing. Interment will be in the Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Hazel's memory to the Bart Township Fire Company, 11 Furnace Road, Quarryville, PA 17566. shiveryfuneralhome.com
