Heavy Storms Keep Bart Township Crews Busy
Sun, Jul 24th, 2016 6:56:00 pm - This weekend has been another busy one. On Saturday afternoon, the Georgetown and Nickel Mines area were hit with 2 heavy thunderstorms within an hour of each other. These storms produced very gusty winds and heavy rain. Shortly after the first storm went through, the calls for service began to roll in. Most of the calls were public service calls to remove trees that had fallen onto the roadway. Most of these calls were able to be handled quickly. There was a house that was damaged by a tree that was toppled by the winds. (See pictures) There was also a tobacco shed that was completely destroyed by the winds, as well as several roofs damaged by the winds. During these storms, the company was able to fully staff both engines and the squad, with several members on station to man the Tanker if needed.
Sunday has been busy also with 3 calls for service including a Tanker assist to Chester Station 27 (Cochranville) on a working barn fire. The Tanker was on scene for about an hour before being released. As of 6 pm Sunday, the company has handled 11 calls.
Thanks to all the members who responded to the calls.
