Vehicle Accident Involving Mass Transit
12/04/2006 16:01- Intersection of Route 372 & 896 in Green Tree, Bart Township, LCWC reported a school bus versus a van. Engine 5-1-1 assisted with hazards and QRS 5-1 assisted Medic 7-7-9 with 1 1 minor patient injury. Command recalled the additional Mass Transit box resources, Rescue 5-7, Engine 5-7-2 and additional incoming BLS & ALS units. Solanco School Districts transportation department arrived promptly with another bus to transfer the students. Units cleared at 17:12 hours.
Station 5-1 Assists Quarryville & Rawlinsville on Back to Back Dwellings
12/03/2006 10:43- 16 S. Hess St., Quarryville Borough, full company assist Quarryville on a working dwelling. 5-7 units arrived to find fire and smoke from the dwelling. 5-7's crew make a quick knock from inside the attic. Engine 5-1-1's crew arrived and assisted with ventilation on side B. Shortly after arrival Command 5-7 placed the fire under control. (click here to see pics on Quarryville's website).
12/03/2006 10:58 - LCWC then directed Engine 5-1-2, Tanker 5-1 & Squad 5-1 to assist station 5-8 Rawlinsville on a working dwelling fire at 1010 Lancaster Pike at the Buck, Drumore Township. Engine 5-1-2 and Squad 5-1's crews assisted in ventilation, 1st floor salvage and 2nd floor overhaul. Tanker 5-1 stood by in a nearby parking lot. (click here to see pics on Quarryville's website). Farm Rescue Male Stuck in a Corn Picker
11/01/2006 14:19- 321 Furnace Rd, Bart Township, Farm Rescue, Engine 5-1-1, QRS 5-1, Rescue 5-7 and Medic 7-7-9. Chief 5-1 arrived to find 1 male conscious and trapped up to the top of a single row corn picker. Engine 5-1-1's crew arrived and began extrication of the victim in 14:23. with spreaders and airbags. Rescue 5-7 arrived just as the patient was extricated at 14:29. 6 minute extrication. ANOTHER, GREAT JOB to the 5-1 extrication crew.

10/27/2006 10:16- 140 Williams Run Rd, Sadsbury Township, 2 vehicle accident with entrapment Engine 5-1-1 for the Rescue assist. Engine 5-1-1's crew removed the roof and then performed extrication on the driver's side door of the sedan. Great job to the 5-1 extrication crew.

09/06/2006 11:27- 306 Highland Road, Colerain Township, vehicle accident involving a motorcycle. Chief 5-1 Woerth was advised by LCWC that a motorcycle was down the embankment into a pole. Engine 5-1-1's crew helped EMS board and pull the patient up the steep embankment.
Tractor Trailer Accident with Spill Control
08/23/2006 14:04 - 1477 Georgetown Road, Bart Township, spill control. Chief 5-1 Woerth was advised by LCWC that a tractor & trailer was leaking fuel & oil after a non-injury MVA. Engine 5-1-2 was added for additional absorbent & Squad 5-2 assisted with fire police. Ambulance 5-2-1 was added for a late transport. The Haz-Mat 2-9 duty officer was on-scene. Crews worked on clean up for several hours. Thanks to Quarryville Fire Company Engine 5-7-2 for handling the standby.

08/05/2006 - Members worked the Chicken BBQ & Community Yard Sale all day. Engine 5-1-1 went to Strasburg Fire Companies new building dedication & parade at 2 pm. 15:16 - Intersection of Georgetown Rd & S. Belmont Rd, Paradise Township, Vehicle Accident with Entrapment. Engine 5-1-2 with Deputy LeFevre on board were on the street peddling some left over chicken bbq and responded immediately. They arrived to find 1 vehicle on its side with entrapment. Engine 5-1-1 responded from Strasburg's dedication light staffed. Engine 2-4-1 Eden was Strasburg's standby crew for there dedication and responded as mutual aid. Crews freed the trapped patient at 15:26.
Vehicle Accident - Feed Truck Overturned
08/04/2006 10:56 - 5752 White Oak Rd, Sadsbury Township, Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived to find a tri-axle truck on its side loaded with 14 tons of feed. Nulls Towing of Cochranville was notified to upright the truck along with a special "sucker" truck to offload the feed into another feed truck. The truck fell into an orchard field. Crews cut up trees and a bulldozer was brought in to remove stumps & trees to create an access point to pull the truck out. Crews spent almost 5 hours on the scene.

Full Company Assist to Christiana on a Working Barn Fire
07/2/2006 18:54 - 54 Christiana Pike, Sadsbury Township, Chief 5-2 Buckwalter arrived to find a working fire with an attached barn to the fire building as well as an exposure dwelling. Engine 5-1-1 arrived & secured the water supply at a pond on site. Crews manned Blitzfire's & hand lines off the scene supply Engine 5-2-1. Engine 5-1-2 went to the rear via a farm lane to protect the attached exposure barn. The attached barn was saved as well as the dwelling. Engine 5-1-1 took some road rash to the left rear door after it bounced off a fence post entering the field. Both engines were stuck in the sloppy fields and had to be towed out. The fire was the result of a lightening strike from a very intense storm that went through the area. Units cleared at 22:54 hours. Great job to all.

06/10/2006 16:34 - 5175 White Oak Rd, Bart Township, LCWC reported a vehicle into a horse & buggy with injuries. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived, established command & reported 1 vehicle blocking the roadway into a buggy with 2 patients. Engine 5-1-1's crew secured the vehicle. QRS 5-1 assisted Ambulance 5-2-1 . Patients were transported to a local hospital. Units cleared at 19:50.

Serious Vehicle Accident with Entrapment Assist Christiana
05/20/2006 17:21 - 518 Noble Road, Sadsbury Township, Assist 5-2 Christiana, Engines 5-1-1, QRS 5-1. Chief 5-2 arrived to find a 2 vehicle accident head on with serious injuries with 1 trapped in a pickup & 1 confined in a Jeep. Engine 5-1-1's crew under the command of Deputy 5-1 (LeFevre) began extrication on the pickup truck. The crew removed the pickup bed roll bar, roof & doors. Crews split & Lt 5-1-1 (Kreider) removed the passenger side door on the Jeep. Engine 5-1-2 added on to assist E-5-1-1's crew and was re-directed to establish a landing zone for SkyFlightCare 1. Great job to all crews involved in a 19 minute extrication time for both patients. Units cleared at 18:59. Click here for more pic's.

05/06/2006 14:13 - Intersection of White Oak & Georgetown Roads, Paradise Township, Engines 5-1-2 QRS 5-1, Engine 5-10-2 rescue, Amb. 4-3-1, Medics 7-7-9, 6-12-10, 6-12-8 & 100. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived to find a 2 vehicle accident with rollover and 1 confined. Engine 5-1-2's crew under the command of Deputy LeFevre utilized the combo tool to remove the front door on the Chevy Tahoe. Skycare was put on standby and later recalled. Great job by all personnel on the scene.
05/06/2006 - Crews set out on a scheduled standby at Chester County Station 2 Berwyn. Berwyn dumped station for Radnor Fire Dept's 100th Anniversary Parade for the day. Engine 5-1-1 was assisted by Ladder 9 from the newly merged Twin Valley Fire Co. Sta. 69 (Elverson/Morgantown). Crews ran 3 calls for the day (QRS run, smoke investigation and building fire). 18:51 - 210 Little Beaver Rd, Strasburg Township full company assist 5-10 Strasburg on a mobile home. Chief 5-10 arrived with a working fire. Engine 5-1-1 & 5-1-2 staged out on the road. Crews assisted with interior fire attack, search, ventilation & overhaul. Tanker 5-1 shuttled water.
Working brush fire impeding a mobile home
05/01/2006 11:32 - 732 Noble Rd, Bart Township Brush. LCWC advised the caller stated that the woods was on fire approximately 10 feet from a mobile home. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived and reported the trailer was not yet involved and established the command. Engine 5-1-2 pulled 2 forestry lines to put a stop at the mobile home and was supplied by Tanker 5-1. Engine 5-1-1 arrived and took a position in the neighboring parking lot and pulled the bumper line. Tanker 5-2-2 Christiana was requested to the scene for additional water. Crews worked to extinguish the burning trees and stumps on the 3/4 acre fire for about an hour. The fire was sparked by flying embers from a neighbors trash pile. Station 5-7 Quarryville was dispatched to standby in station for the 5-1 house. Units cleared at 12:59 hours.

04/28/2006 17:02 - 590 Creek Rd, Sadsbury Township establish a Landing Zone for Sky Flight Care for a child that was exposed to copper sulfate. 19:28 - Full company assist 5-2 Christiana on a dwelling at 134 Jackson Rd, Sadsbury Township, Engine 5-1-1 was first arriving and was advised by command 5-2 to take a water can and TIC interior to investigate. Crews found and oil fire from cooking. Tanker 5-1 and Engine 5-1-2 staged out on the hard road. Units cleared at 19:59. 04/28/2006 10:55 - 4500 block White Oak Road, Paradise Township, woods. Passerby on a cell phone saw smoke from the woods. No woods were found on fire the company was recalled. Members from Station 5-1 participated in the 16 hour Pump Operation 1 class all day Saturday. They worked on drafting and hydrant use.
Assist Strasburg with 2 Alarm "Working" Building Fire
04/19/2006 18:39 - 833 May Post Office, Strasburg Township, 1st alarm assist Engines 5-1-1, 5-1-2, Tanker 5-1 assist Strasburg 5-10. Deputy 5-10 (Devonshire) arrived with a working building fire, as well as a woods fire with exposures. Engine 5-1-1 was 2nd in and laid in the lower driveway behind Deputy 5-10. Engine 5-1-1's crew assisted by Engine 5-1-2 and Squad 5-1 pulled 3 lines off Engine 5-1-1 ( Blitzfire portable monitor, 300 foot 2" & bumper line with high rise pack added on). Crews stretched a line down the hill to protect the neighboring structures and extinguish the brush fire. Multiple explosions rocked the ground & debris shot into the air. The projectile debris from the explosions caused multiple tree top fires. Command 5-10 ordered the evacuation tones to temporarily clear the fire area due to explosions. Tanker 5-1 shuttled water. Deputy 5-1 (LeFevre) was assigned water supply officer. After the fire was extinguished, crews stood by while the track-hoe removed the debris from the building. Units cleared at 23:31. Special thanks to Chester County Pumper/Tanker 27-5 Cochranville (2nd time this week) and Engine company 4-2-2 Gap for handling the fill in at Station 5-1. Great job by all personnel on the scene.

03/15/2006 17:58 - Intersection of Buck Run Rd & Christiana Pike, Sadsbury Township, Engine 5-1-1 assist 5-2 Christiana. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived to find a 2 vehicle accident. Engine 5-2-1 & Engine 5-1-1controlled hazards & depowered vehicles. Squad 5-1, Ambulance 5-2-1 & Medic 7-7-9 evaluated the patients. Engine 5-1-1 cleared at 18:29. While on the MVA the station was alerted for a second call, a utility pole at 2 Dry Wells Rd, Bart Township, pole sparking embers. Deputy 5-1 (LeFevre) arrived to find a power outage in the area. Engine 5-1-2 cleared at 18:34.

02/11/2006 Saturday - Members started the day out by helping at the Monthly Breakfast. We served over 500 people! Members then helped out the crew of Christiana Cabinetry (special thanks to Randy & Donny Brotzman) build & install cabinets for the sale offices. Snow began to fall and continued until 9 am Sunday morning. 22:43 - Engine 5-1-1 was dispatched for a vehicle accident standby at the intersection of Georgetown & Gibbles Hill Roads. An older Pontiac Firebird with 5 occupants hit & splintered a telephone pole. 02/12/2006 14:40 - Squad 5-1 was dispatched for a medical assist to Ambulance 5-2-1 Christiana at 80 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Sadsbury Township.

Serious Vehicle Accident Involving Horse & Buggy in Nickel Mines
01/29/2006 22:57 - Intersection of Mine Rd & White Oak Rd in the Village of Nickel Mines, Bart Township, Vehicle Accident. LCWC advised that a a horse & buggy was involved with multiple patients. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived with multiple patients in the roadway and established the command. A request was made for 3 ALS units & a helicopter to be placed on standby. Deputy 5-1 (LeFevere) assumed medical operations liaison. Engine 5-1-1's crews depowered the vehicle, setup perimeter tape for crowd control & assisted Squad 5-1's crew with patient care. A second helicopter was requested to the scene. Engine 5-1-2's crew established the landing zones South of the Nickel Mines Auction. Medical command advised due to long ETA's on aero medical support to transport all patients via ground. Station 4-2 Gap & 5-2 Christiana were alerted for the Fire Police to assist. PSP arrived to investigate. All units cleared at 00:56 hours.

2 Accidents for the Weekend
01/22/2006 04:11 - 1477 Georgetown Rd, Bart Township, Vehicle Accident with possible entrapment. LCWC advised that a passerby saw car drive off roadway into a ditch with no one moving around. Chief 5-1 arrived to find a horse & buggy over the embankment with no injuries. Engine 5-1-1's crew flipped the buggy back over onto the road & provided lighting for PSP.
01/22/2006 17:42 - Intersection of Bell Rd & Maple Shade Rd, Colerain Township, Vehicle Accident with possible entrapment. LCWC advised that a vehicle spun out of control into the embankment & no one got out of it. Chief arrived and established the command. No injuries. Engine 5-1-1's crew popped the hood, depowered the vehicle & controlled fluids. Units cleared at 18:40 hours.

01/16/2006 12:34 - 127 Clover Hill Rd, Bart Township, Dwelling, Station 5-1, Station 5-7 Quarryville & Tanker 5-2-2 Christiana. LCWC advised that a trash container was on fire next to the carport. Deputy 5-1 (LeFevre) arrived with a light smoke condition and established the command. Engine 5-1-1's crew pulled the trash line and extinguished the fire. Crews checked the structure with the TIC to check for extension and overhauled the remaining trash cans.. Units were held to 5-1 & Engine 5-7-2 transferred to the 5-1 house for standby. Units cleared at 13:10 hours.

The day started out with members helping at the monthly breakfast. We served 430 people at the breakfast. It was one of the largest in the past couple months. Some members then traveled down to the Firestore's new facility in Sadsburyville to buy some items and take a tour.
01/14/2006 15:22 - Engine 5-1-1 Transfer Station 5-7 Quarryville while they were working a multi-alarm barn fire with Station 5-8 Rawlinsville. (Station 5-7's link to the barn fire.) 19:25 - Engine 5-1-2 was dispatched for wires across the roadway at 1436 Georgetown Road, Bart Township. A power line was strung across the road causing a power outage in the area. Fire police directed traffic until PP&L arrived. 19:37 - Engine 5-1-1 was dispatched from the standby at 5-7, along with Station 21 Oxford to a Dwelling fire reported in the chimney at 79 Ridge Road, Colerain Township. Deputy 5-7 established the command. 5-1 & Rescue 5-7's crew emptied out the chimney box & disassembled the smoke pipes to clean them out. Truck 21 setup and dropped chains down the chimney to the 2nd floor cleanout. Crews cleared at 20:36 hours. Engine 5-1-1 returned back to Station 5-7 for standby. Engine 5-1-1 cleared 5-7 at 21:40. 22:21 - Engine 5-1-1 was dispatched for wires at 8 Lancaster Ave, Bart Township. Guide wire across roadway. 01/15/2006 00:12 - Engine 5-1-1 was dispatched for wires at 623 Creek Rd, Colerain Township. Tree arcing on wire.

01/02/2006 13:00 - 1278 Georgetown Rd, Bart Township, Engine 5-1-1 assist with vehicle accident standby. Engine 5-1-1's crew stabilized and depowered the vehicle. Clear 13:40 hrs.
01/02/2006 12:21 - 129 Sadsbury Ave, Christiana Boro, Engine 5-1-1 & Tanker 5-1 assist Station 5-2 Christiana on a dwelling. Caller stated an electrical outlet started smoking. Tanker 5-1 was directed to 5-2 house for standby then recalled. Clear 12:31 hrs.
1st Call of 2006 - Vehicle Accident
01/01/2006 03:57 - 1361 Georgetown Rd, Bart Township, 1 vehicle accident, vehicle on it's side, 1 patient with a hand injury. Engine 5-1-1's crew stabilized & depowered the vehicle. QRS 5-1's crew assisted with patient care. Ambulance 5-2-1 arrived & transported the patient. Clear 04:40 hrs.

12/07/2006 20:53- 217 E. State St, Quarryville Borough, Engine 5-1-1 relocate to Station 5-7 Quarryville. Quarryville units were out assisting Station 5-8 Rawlinsville at a large woods fire. Engine 5-1-1 went on location. As they were backing into Station 5-7, LCWC advised to standby for a dispatch.
12/07/2006 21:11 - 1361 Kirkwood Pike, Colerain Township, Stations 5-7, 5-1 and Chester 21 Oxford for a dwelling. LCWC advised occupants arrived home to a house full of smoke. Chief 5-1-2 on Engine 5-1-1 arrived within 4 minutes and reported a rancher with one room well off laying a supply line. Engine 5-1-1's crew went into service with 2 --1 3/4" hand lines and encountered heavy fire and heat conditions. Truck 5-7 arrived next and assisted 5-1's crew. Engine 5-1-2 and Tanker 5-1 arrived next and hooked into the supply line to Engine 5-1-1. Crews knocked the fire quickly and started on salvage and overhaul. PSP fire marshal was called to the scene. Crews encountered 20 degree temperatures with wind chills in the single digits. Units cleared at 00:08.
12/08/2006 01:42 - 300-B Brenneman Rd, Strasburg Township, Tanker 5-1 assist Station 5-9 Refton on a working barn fire. Tanker 5-1 cleared at 03:23 hours.

12/15/2006 20:583- 5137 Pieters Rd, Salisbury Township, Tanker 5-1 assist Station 4-9 White Horse on a fatal house fire. Tanker 5-1 supplied water to the scene. Tanker cleared at 22:19 hours.
12/16/2006 18:30 - 271 Rohrer's Mill Rd, Paradise Township, Stations 5-10, 5-1 and Truck 5-7 for a building fire at the historic Rohrer's Mill. Engine 5-1-1 was assigned to draft at the creek at Rohrer's Mill Rd & Route 896, Engine 5-1-2 laid 1,300 ft. of 4" supply line from Engine 5-1-1 to the scene where they operated the deck gun and several hand lines. Tanker 5-1 supplied water. Units cleared at 22:14 hours.
